Howdy
Micah Albert is a documentary and travel photographer, educator, and writer whose work has long focused on underreported stories in some of the world’s most difficult-to-access regions. Represented by Redux Pictures in New York City, his career spans two decades of immersive storytelling across Africa, the Middle East, and North America.
His early work began in Sudan, where he traveled with rebel movements in the country’s south during the years leading up to the creation of South Sudan. That foundation—bearing witness to a nation's birth—set the tone for a career focused on places undergoing seismic change.
Micah has captured high-risk environments and geopolitical fault lines—from embedded assignments with North African counter-terrorism forces in the Sahara to documenting AQIM recruitment efforts and rebel factions along one of the most dangerous axes in Southern Algeria. His Pulitzer Center–funded coverage of Dandora, Africa’s largest dumpsite, earned him 1st Prize in World Press Photo (Contemporary Issues) and top honors from National Geographic Magazine.
In recent years, Micah has shifted toward slower, more intentional forms of storytelling—rooted in place, driven by curiosity, and grounded in respect still seeking to capture a sense of place. His work now explores the intersections of culture, food, and meaningful travel.
Micah is currently a Career & Technical Education (CTE) photography teacher in Northern California, where he brings his global experience into the classroom. He’s committed to mentoring the next generation of visual storytellers while continuing to pursue travel and editorial projects that value depth over spectacle.
