The Maasai Mara - Some places deserve to wait
The Maasai Mara had remained an unlikely omission from nearly two decades of traveling throughout East Africa. Reporting assignments had taken me across Kenya and into neighboring countries countless times, yet I had always resisted squeezing in a safari between deadlines. Some places deserved more than a quick visit.
This June 2026, alongside my family, I finally experienced the Mara during the opening days of the Great Migration, one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles. We stayed along the Mara River at Sentinel Mara Camp, where early mornings, long game drives, and evenings beneath impossibly large skies quickly settled into an unforgettable rhythm.
